A Substitue Teacher's Perspective

Susie Winegardner
I am taking this course for credit. It was recommended and I am learning so much! I am a substitute teacher in K-12 classrooms. They all use Google Docs, Google Classroom and of course Gmail. It is easy to see how helpful these things are in making the learning environment more efficient and convenient for all involved. I admit that I had been one to resist all the technology a little bit, as I have always been in favor of face to face verbal communication. That said, I am seeing more and more that the increased efficiency these technological tools offer the classroom is quite valuable. As a substitute teacher, I obviously do not create lesson plans, so I can't directly state how I will use these tools in "my" classroom. I can say, however, that I see the value in students and teachers alike being well-schooled in using these tools for efficient communication and learning opportunities. I will take all I can learn and put it to good use so that when I sub for the classroom teachers, I can seamlessly jump right in and use these tools proficiently so as not to disrupt the flow of learning. It is so important to do whatever possible to keep the learning pace flowing in the teacher's absence. Knowing how to utilize these technological tools is becoming a big part of that commitment.
