I am a lower elementary teacher in an international school. I use gmail on a daily basis. I currently use gmail for communication with administration, teachers, staff and parents. The staff at school creates google docs to share notes, such as on professional development meetings, MSA and literacy committees. We use forms to create survey questions and sheets to record the answers. I use groups to email parents my weekly newsletter and labels to find past parent emails in an timely way.
Another way I use gmail is as a resource for future years of lesson planning. I create emails with links to support a specific topic such as "Valentine's day" or "Dr. Suess" and label it. The lables and/or "search" function have helped me revisit this theme when February rolls around again!
Translation was a new and interesting thing to learn about. The parents in our school are from many different countries and there are 9 countries represented in my class alone. Although most parents are fairly fluent in English, I am interested in learning more about the translation feature in gmail labs!
Next year, I will be teaching an upper level class and I am taking this course to learn how to further use gmail as a source for assignments, tasks and communication with my students.
