Creative Lesson By Kya Kimsey

Subject Focus: This lesson integrates math, fine motor skills and art.
Grade Level: Kindergarten
Background: This lesson would be integrated during the time when the class is working on learning about circles.

Anchor Standard #1: Generate and conceptualize artistic ideas and work.
Anchor Standard #2: Organize and develop artistic ideas and work.
Anchor Standard #3: Refine and complete artistic work.

Students will be shown a painting by Wassily Kandinsky http://www.wassilykandinsky.net/images/works/370.jpg. The teacher will draw different sized circles onto paper. Students will be given an assortment of colored paper to cut out. The students will the layer the circles on top of each other from biggest to largest. This assignment will work on students fine motor skills when they are cutting out their circles. They will then layer the girls and then glue them down. When the students are all done we will put together a collage in the hallway.

Students will be informally assessed on their ability to follow directions when asked to cut out the circles. They will be informally assessed on their understanding of layer the circles from largest to smallest.
