DC Digital Literacy: Share Resource by Cynthia Randall

I actually have 2 sites that I love to use personally, and teach students how to use them in their life.

Many students will receive new computers at back to school time, or Christmas/birthdays, but many do not receive any software to be able to use the computer effectively for their educational needs (they do not have Microsoft Office or Mac Suite, as they are usually an additional cost).  About 10 years ago, I became familiar with Google Docs (sites, presentations, etc...).  This was a great tool to show students how they could now write and save their documents, presentations, and spreadsheets all without a special program and it was for free.  It made life easier for those that had internet capabilities, without the extra funds for added space and software. Students can also collaborate with other students by sharing their work with others in the group and each can work on parts necessary.   I will say it has it's drawbacks, as some students in our school district do not have internet access, and as it is rural (with only 1 library between the 5 towns and 27 mile radius) communities there is not a lot of free internet to be had.

Many years ago I also discovered PREZI, and these presentations liven up a boring power point!  They are pretty awesome and amazing to see. I have noticed that students will even take information farther, and more in depth within a topic, as they can visually present it going deeper.

We also like to review points, create, share and communicate with others using sites such as  Toondo, Kahoot, bubbl.us, and pintrest.  Using each in some way has opened up students to be more creative, and see more examples of learning in a new light.
