DC Digital Literacy: Share Resource by: Jill Mielke

Jill Mielke
I explored many different sites.  The one I am going to share with you  is storybird.com.  I  am totally in love with it.  My students do a lot of writing in my classroom.  Recently, my school had parent-teacher conferences.  Conferences is when I get a chance to really share what we do in my class.  During conferences this time, I shared several of the writings that my students have done this past year since our last conferences. Several of the parents were extremely excited to see what their child had written. By using story bird,  the students will get to add pictures to their stories, and we will be able to share them with their parents more often.  Storybird.com, also, allows students to read other writings by students their age.  My students completed a lesson on comparing and contrasting Cinderella stories from around the world.  As a writing prompt, they created their own "Cinderella" stories using knowledge they had gained from the different types of stories we read.  I think Storybird.com would be a great tool to use to share these stories.
