DC Digital Literacy: Share Resource

Michael Masteller
Communication Tools = remind = This is great.  I use it for all my classes.  I can text them and they can text me, but it’s all through remind.  I don’t have their number and they don’t have mind.  They don’t even need a text plan…it can all go through an app.  Also, the pre-schedule announcement option is awesome.

Collaborative Tools: = Edmodo = I used this a few years ago.  I wanted a one-stop shop for digital writing and collaboration.  It served the purposes well enough, but now my district pays for Canvas and that’s perfect for my needs now.

Creation Tools = https://animoto.com/ = Student voice and choice are big buzz words.  What if a student could use this website to represent the development of a particular theme in a text throughout the course of the text? If they can do that effectively with a video, sans traditional essay, don’t they still have the skill of theme development?  Yes.  Yes they do.

Critical Thinking Tools = https://nces.ed.gov/nceskids/createagraph/default.aspx = Perfect for some of my projects that ask students to make arguments in more modern fashions: blogs, videos, etc.

Organizational Tools and Graphic Organizers = google drive = Organization is crucial for students.  There. Is. Just. Too. Much.  Just like I tell my students how to organize their binders, people need to organize their lives.  Drive is just one avenue.
