DC Internet Safety By: Jill Mielke

I explored Facebook and talked with colleagues about the special features that they have found when using it.  I was very surprised to learn of some of the features it offered such as being able to share your post  and pictures with only certain people and allowing people to find your name on Facebook  when searching it on the internet.  The only complaint about the site was that I didn’t find all the features user friendly.  If I hadn’t talked with my colleagues ahead of time, I wouldn’t have found some of those features and was unable to find some of the ones they had mentioned.  It was great to have a conversation about using the site since several grades in our school have Facebook pages for their classroom.  They mentioned that pictures sometime get post to the wrong site if they have more than one Facebook account associated with their email.  I found this  extremely helpful as I have thought about creating a page for my classroom since starting this class and that most of the classrooms in my building have pages.  I am not completely sold on the idea, but am seriously considering it as another way to communicate and share what is going on in my classroom.
