DC Internet Safety-Carrie Gaul

Carrie Gaul
I resisted social media sites for awhile, but as another user here worded it, I too, realized that the benefits outweighed the negative aspects.  I have had a Facebook account for about 1 year.  It has been an excellent way to reconnect with old high school classmates, old friends, and neighbors.  Since I am a fairly new user of Facebook, I decided to explore that.  I went through the Privacy Checkup.  As I thought I was cautious when I set up the account, I was pretty surprised that I had my hometown and current city set as available to the public.  I also explored the privacy settings and read about privacy basics.  I was also surprised that I had friends of friends selected for commenting and tagging as opposed to friends only.  I updated that as well.  It was a great thing to explore, review, and check.  I learned to go through this with my children when they get phones and start registering for accounts such as this. I also learned to check accounts on a regular basis to monitor them.
