DC Internet Safety by Lisa Parcell

Until recently I had no social media sites.  In August, however, I signed up for Instagram.  I only did this because two of my children's teachers use it to post fun happenings in the classroom.  I signed up, registered to be part of the groups, and haven't really managed it until right now.  If it weren't for this assignment, I probably wouldn't have looked into all of the setting for Instagram.  I was very happy to discover how easy it was to find information on how to set the privacy settings and learn how to work the ins and outs of Instagram.  What I was really surprised by was none of this information came up when I registered for an account.  I had no idea the privacy setting starts off as open by default.  I have since changed this.  When my children are old enough to have social media sights of their own, I will make sure they understand the settings and how to fully navigate the sites.  I also found a section on Tips for Parents and Understanding Instagram.  I currently do not teach in a classroom, but I understand the importance of social media when communicating with parents.  I plan to learn more about his area so when I go back to teaching, I can jump in and be knowledgeable about social media.
