DC Internet Safety

Janine Zantingh
I explored Instagram-as it is the only social media account I use.  I found that the default upon account creation is for all privacy settings to be "off"-that is a concern...shouldn't the be defaulted to the tightest security?  Also of note, is the need to protect your hashtags...as you may have a protected account, but your security settings may allow your hashtags to plop you into other threads with the same hashtag.  Therefore, you need to also set your privacy settings to protect your hashtags-which isn't something that was transparent to me before I started digging around.  It is so important to check all of the privacy settings and check them often.

Wow!  Thank you for sharing!  I only have FB and while I dabbled with Twitter for awhile it was too much for me!  I've used one hashtag in my life and thought it might be carried over from FB to another social media site, but wasn't sure.  It was relating to mom life, so I wasn't at all worried about sharing it with the world, however, you're right.  This is made apparent!  I bet a lot of other do not realize this and understand it ties them to another social media site.
