DC Internet Safety

April Netley
I am sure that I am one of very few people who does not have a Facebook account.  I made my daughter open her profile settings so I could see what information she could provide. (She was super excited to do that.) I could see that she is pretty private about what information she put in her profile and she strictly limits who has access to her page.  I did see that one could still have access to her email which I try to protect much more than she does.

I looked at a couple of her friend's profiles and noticed that they gave out where they worked, bad idea, and I couldn't believe how many posted vacation photos while they were still on vacation, another very bad idea.  I can't say that I was all that keen on a couple of my daughter's photos as well.

I am surrounded by students all day, all of whom have instant access to me through school email.  I literally receive between 80-100 emails a day.  I don't want them to have access to my private life.  I have zero need to share my private life nor do I have the time to update/monitor a Facebook page.  Our school is pressuring us to all have Twitter accounts.  We have elected our office secretary to handle our department's Twitter account for us.
