DC Internet Safety

Katy Sinha
What social networking site did you explore and what settings in that site should users be aware? Explore other participants thoughts to see if any of them apply to any social networking sites you or your students may be using.

I have a face book account. I can view and adjust my private setting at any time. Private shortcuts give me access to some of the most widely used private settings and tools. I can click at the top of the page to see shortcuts that can help me manage my account for example:
Who can see my stuff?
Who can contact me?
How can I stop someone from bothering me?
I normally have have my setting where my "friends of friends" can contact me and can read my posts. I "block" mean and nasty people.
I would recommend to students and educators to only add people they know. Also, with your personal life updates comes to the notice of all your friends and others, and so your privacy is compromised.
