Since the beginning of time, etiquette has been an issue in the communication world, such as when a neighbor lady would listen in on a party-line for gossip purposes. (For those who do not know what a party line is feel free to contact me.) Manners and respect are two of my biggest pet peeves in today's world. I once had someone point out to me that we as a society have went from having porches on the front of our houses where we would welcome neighbors passing by to stop for a conversation, to putting patios and decks on the back of our homes only for invited guests, to where we even started putting fences around our properties, to finally communicating through digital media from within the confines of our homes. So, as modern technology advances inappropriate etiquette becomes more and more of an issue.
