DC Intro: Norms and responsibilities

Jason Marshall
The advent of social media has quickly and radically changed the ways in which we communicate as a society.  In the past the only way for a typical person to reach a massive audience was in the form of a letter to the editor.  Putting that together took some time and effort.  We can now quickly fire off a comment or rant on our phone in about 10 seconds and reach an even larger audience.  I think it is important to help students understand these tools and develop norms for using them in a responsible way.  Not only should norms address what you share, but the appropriateness of commenting.  Most recently I have seen much concern about our use of social media as a tool for public shaming. We must evolve as digital educators as these tools do.
