DC Norms and Responsibilities

Carrie Clemsen
Using common sense should be the norm and user responsibility. The user should not expect technology and/or the internet to do everything for them (i.e. protect their information/identity/etc. without at least some preventative and cautious measures by the individual. The user should recognize that information sent/received over the internet is not always private (read user agreements, etc.). Users should recognize that privacy and settings should be explored within every app downloaded and website registered with in regards to privacy (especially with personal/financial information at stake). Common sense would also include common courtesy towards others - even if we disagree. For example I read other posts about free speech without censorship, giving credit to original sources of information, and honesty. Again, it really comes down to using common sense (although some of what used to be common sense might need a little reteaching and review from time to time now!).
