Digital Citizenship:Share Resource

Leanna Manternach
Our school is very small and we have just went to  1 to 1 computers.  This is very exciting. Our staff has used the Google Calendar to schedule our specials, such as library, computer lab. etc. But now with 1 to 1 computers, we will be exploring more ways to use our technology with students.  We are researching the Google Classroom. This is being investigated in our Professional Development Days. Last Friday, we explored Google Forms and are going to use it for spelling and vocabulary in our own classroom. This is new to most of us but we are going to try using it with our students.  Our next PD we will discuss how we are utilizing Google Classroom and if we need to iron out the kinks.  I feel we may be behind in technology but we are heading in the right direction.

I also work in a smaller district with limited resources.  We are not 1:1.  We do have laptops for teachers and students to check out and many students have their own but not all. This complicates things!  Congratulations on your new exciting adventure with individual technology!

I think it is cool that all of us can share our classroom situations through this training. Unlike the two of you, I taught in the upper levels in a larger district. We have used technology but sometimes teachers don't expose themselves to as much as we can or take time to learn about what is available. I have learned, from these discussions, where our students are learning and what they are learning in the area of technology.

There are many differences but every district seems to be moving forward with 1:1 and we are learning to integrate technology via our PD days.

This year we are going to use Google Classroom in the 4th - 8th grades.  I was able to link all of my 4th graders, which was no small feet since we have a "Bring Your own Device Policy."  My students all began typing their 2nd drafts of their Personal Narrative stories, when all of the sudden they were locked out.  Our techology adviser has not been able to fix the bugs yet.  Ugh!
