Digital Citizenship

Cheri Maxwell
The digital world and digital community is very powerful.  It can be powerfully positive as well as powerfully damaging.  It is our responsibility as teachers, parents and citizens to demonstrate to students the benefits and damages that can occur.  I find it important to share and discuss with students those real life scenarios.  One question I find myself asking my children as well as students is..."Would you be OK if your digital message or photograph was displayed on the over head projector for all to see?  If it would make you uncomfortable, then it shouldn't be shared and certainly doesn't belong in digital media for others to see and share."  On the same hand, if the message or content lifts people up and displays good "citizenship" then perhaps it does belong and is an effective means for providing goodness.
