Digital Rights and Responsibilities

Carole Mackey
The most significant right that should be a norm in the digital world is the privacy of personal information.  When users expect data security and either do not get it because of hacking or because organizations abuse their trust by sharing private information without permission, a full accounting needs to be completed by law.  Digital users also have the responsibility to understand digital standards and choose digital tools that meet those standards at all times.  Digital users may need to demand more of their lawmakers in cases of digital mismanagement or fraud, but they also must be willing to spend more time investigating their digital choices, favoring full knowledge over convenience or entertainment.
