English

Carol L. Anderson
Because I teach both English and Accounting courses, including financial literacy across the curriculum is an easy goal to achieve especially because I will see the same students in more than one class.  In the past, I have taught a financial literacy class that was a graduation requirement so I had student contact with every senior, every day. Because I, personally, feel very strongly about financial responsibility for every member of society, I find discussions, not just about daily money management, but also about the incurring of debt, tie naturally into what we read in English classes as well as into accounting lessons.  I find it imperative that young people today understand interest that is the result of credit card debt as well as what is involved in student loan debt.  They also need to learn what long-term investments can do for them throughout their lives and how earned interest is really the basis of their long-term financial security.
