FACEBOOK

Pamela Hayes
I looked into the different settings that are on Facebook and how much you can control. There is much you can do to set your settings to private so that only your friends can see or comment on your posts. You can also control who can search for you and whether they can search using your provided email or phone number. All of that seems pretty secure. However, when you begin using Messenger or the games and other apps associated with your Facebook account, you may find that you can put yourself at risk for undesired contacts or viruses within the apps. I would agree with some of the other comments I read that many students have move beyond Facebook to Instagram, Tumblr, Snapchat or other social media apps. The fear I have with those other apps is that it is much easier to post photographs or inadvertently post private information. I think students may not understand that even though it is instant and sometimes temporarily posted, the footprint of what they posted will forever be out there and that can put them at risk.
