Financial Literacy-Homeschool

Jill Van Soelen
I teach my children at home and financial literacy is a VERY important part of what we want our children to know and be able to do when they are ready to go out on their own.  We want them to make wise financial choices so that their options are not limited by lack of funds or massive amounts of debt.

We could teach financial literacy in many ways:  stories, examples, giving them real world opportunities to earn and manage money from a young age, or having discussions about wants/needs and the importance of budgeting.

We go to the grocery store regularly and this experience can be maximized by discussing why we choose what we do and how our grocery spending fits into our overall budget.

Another option would be running lemonade stands or making things to sell.
