Financial Literacy in Kindergarten

Elizabeth Bevans
As a kindergarten teacher, my financial literacy lessons begin with the very basics. Most of my students cannot identify coins or count money and they have little idea about the concept of how much things cost. We work hard on becoming fluent at identifying and counting money. We also work on needs vs wants when it comes to making choices on how to spend money, how to earn money (different jobs), and how/why to save money or donate money. They are introduced to basic terms like income, banks, savings accounts, earning, spending, charity, and goods.
