I am a middle school math teacher. Financial Literacy is very important to know about as we all have budgets to maintain and how to manage our money. During the Holiday time we get a grocery ad and try and figure up the cost of our Thanksgiving meal and we have certain limitations placed on them. We also discuss wants/needs and what we should do when it comes to making these choices.
When we are talking about integers we use a checkbook register to keep track of our spending choices and make sure that we keep a running total.
It is through these real life examples that I am able to show them that we all need to be good at math. We always want to be able to eat and we always need to know where our money is going.
