My highest take away from these articles is that art integrated into other subject areas is very important for students and it helps them connect the subject they are learning to the art that they are doing/did.
During my career, I have noticed that art is used everywhere and it helps students express themselves even more. I think about when my 2nd graders have to do writing. Sometimes it is a struggle to get them to work and write anything. BUT if I start the writing with them drawing a picture about an event, students are more likely to engage and write about what they drew and the event that goes with their drawing. Also, I have a cool activity I do that involves are with compound words and it really helps students understand that a compound word is the two words put together AND it make a new meaning. sometime students get stuck on the new meaning part of compound words, but when art is involved it solidifies their understanding.
