Take Aways from the Reading:
I have heard too much about art disappearing from schools due to funding. It is not fair that we expect any subjects should be cut. We are doing a disservice to our students. This is a safe outlet for them to express themselves without judgement. I remember loving going to art all the time. Then when I got to middle school funding was cut and there was one art teacher for all of the elementary students shifting to middle school which was 4 elementary schools. Unfortunately, I was not able to get into art and ended up stopping. I still find myself doing coloring as a way to relax and unwind from the stress of a day.
How to use it in a classroom:
I can ask students to present their findings from a project in a different way such as a poster or graphic novel way. Also, when students need a break it is nice to give them the option to draw or color to relax and have an outlet in school.
