What can exploring art do for enhancing and developing career skills?
Art can do so many things to enhance and develop career skills. Art is a form of expression and can increase self-esteem, engagement, and help students make connections across a variety of subjects to better prepare them for their futures. In addition, art can help with collaboration and problem solving skills, which are crucial in developing career skills. As an AVID school we strive to meet the diverse needs of our learners and prepare all for career readiness. By allowing creativity in the form of art, we are transforming the environment of learning and providing those skills and learning experiences with connections to the real world.

What types of technologies have you used that shares a link with art? Include at least one link to a technology that could be used in the classroom.
I love reading teacher blogs, browsing Pinterest and TPT (Teachers pay Teachers) for fun ways to incorporate art into my classroom. During the 20-21 school year I was a Virtual Kindergarten teacher and I had to find creative ways to implement art into the online classroom. One resource that I started using was whiteboard.chat. This was a virtual whiteboard in which students could interact with in real time. I utilized this technology in a number of ways across subjects and I liked the features of changing the pen color, pen size, being able to add charts, symbols, and emojis, and the ability to share boards for feedback from other students. One activity in which I incorporated art that my students really enjoyed was in small groups when we would have a shared board in which students created a drawing that aligned with a topic sentence. One at a time, students would make a mark or line without picking up the cursor on the whiteboard- then one by one, each student would add something to the picture. They had to utilize their creativity skills to create a picture collaboratively. I believe this technology is something that I can continue to utilize in the classroom.

What are your "takeaways" from the article and videos?
I really enjoyed the example lesson plan of Drawing with Thread. I think this is a versatile lesson plan that can be adapted to the primary grades as well. In addition, the importance of the role of the arts in influencing academic and social development for all learners continues to be a huge takeaway. I know the importance of implementing arts-oriented technology in the classroom, and its important to make those types of technologies accessible to all students and find ways to incorporate with our special education populations as well.
