GMail Makes Communication Better

Min Richardson
As a substitute teacher, I have not had much opportunity to use GMail in a classroom setting.  I have received information regarding lesson planning from a teacher, which was helpful.  Our district has a 1:1 laptop program, and the students in Middle and High School have Google Chromebooks.

As a parent volunteer, I value what I am learning in this on-line course.  Our high school band director uses Google Calendar for all band events.  I have gained an increased understanding of how all of the Google Apps are integrated and can be used together to organize projects / events and communicate with school staff and other volunteer committee members.  I hope to increase my usage of these tools to be a better organizer, planner, and volunteer.  We have also used a shared Google Sheets document to track band uniform assignments and alteration needs.  Most of the other parents on the committees I am involved in also use GMail and it is a very useful tool.  I like the integration with Google Calendar.

I have also been able to communicate with band directors using GMail following concerts to send them links to recordings of concert pieces I posted on YouTube, allowing them to share the videos with the students (to use a sports term, it's like "reviewing game tapes", in a musical sense).
