Gmail in the Classroom

Kevin Vickery
the nice part of using Gmail (or any other email server) is that there is a trail of establishing parent communication.  You can even set it up so that you can require them to acknowledge that they have received the message.  I like that the message can be translated when the parent is not a native English speaker.  This is a feature that you should use carefully, as you need to remember that the translation processes are not always correct and may be sending a message that you do not mean to send.

Another area that I encourage my students to use is the list of the things to do.  I help them understand that if they put things on a list then, they are less likely to forget them.  It also helps them to prioritize the tasks either by oldest, easiest, most important to keep them from putting things off until the last minute.
