Gmail in the classroom

Lori Lourens
I currently use my gmail daily.  I am a 4-6 general music teacher.  I have "groups" formed to communicate with individual grade levels.  We all know we get too many emails and this helps in efficiency.  We do most of our group emailing to parents through Infinite Campus, our online grade book.

My 6th grade students have individual computers.  I could see that if they were absent and had a test or project due, an email would be a great reminder.  Also I read a great idea on the forum about "sub plans". By emailing the students a list expectations for the day would be a great way to help out the substitute.  I do not always get a music qualified sub.  :)  Also  I have a unit using Garage Band and an email would be helpful to remind the students of the deadlines for each part of the process.

Next year our 5th graders with be one on one.  I might find new ways to use the gmail tools to communicate with them.
