I use gmail a lot in my classroom. I have groups set up for each of my classes as well as a listserv for each group of parents. It makes is much more efficient to send e-mails by just typing the name of the group instead of remembering each person and typing their email address. I also use labels to keep track of parent communication throughout the year. I keep a folder of parent e-mails to maintain a record in case documentation is needed.
I agree Labels are very helpful when you need to keep something, but not clutter your inbox. GMail has so many great features. I use the Filters to immediately inform me if my boss is emailing me. Otherwise, I get busy with something and forget to check my emails.
