Google in the classroom

Elizabeth Bevans
Since I teach kindergarten my students themselves don't use google tools a huge amount. However, I use it quite a bit myself. I love how I can create groups in gmail so I have one for my other kindergarten teachers in the building, one for all kindergarten teachers in the district, one for all teacher in my building, one for all staff, and one for all parent communications. It helps me stay organized and be able to share and get information quickly and easily. I like that I can mark emails as unread, starred, or important so that I can keep track and I love that I learned how to turn off the conversation view so I can see the emails without the condensed format. I have never had a signature line, but after this class I decided to create one for the fall. With the school closures last spring I began to utilize Google Hangouts to occasionally touch base with my students, although since my kindergartners needed parent assistance to do this, not many were able to join. Our building also uses Google calendars so I appreciate that it's an easy way to keep my schedule organized.
