Great sites for Band Students!

David Clark
I use the Noteflight program for my band students.  We begin writing very simple lesson book exercises in 6th grade and slowly increase the amount of composing through middle school.  In 8th grade they use Noteflight for a transcription project which prepares them to use it when they are in high school for writing their own jazz solos or simply to create their own compositions.  It has a free limited program that is everything you would ever need but can be upgraded which costs money but I a few of my students who really get into it have paid to get the extra features. This is a great tool for using technology in the music classroom.

This is very impressive site to use.  What is more impressive is how you use it and apply it all the way through Middle School with your band students.  This allows both you and your students to not only build on your weekly lessons but to continue it from year to year. Think about the possibilities when it comes time for them to tryout for All State or Honor Band.  They have everything you have taught them right at their finger tips.

That is awesome! I used to teach music and looked everywhere for viable sites to use with my students to teach about writing music. I have used Finale notepad but I like the looks of Noteflight better!
