Inappropriate Digital Media

Cassidy Peppmeier
There are many instances that I can think of that digital media was used inappropriately.

1. Recently I had a friend who received a comic strip through social media about "building the wall." Their were multiple people tagged in the post, but this person didn't see the humor. The comic strip was meant to degrade people here in the U.S. that support immigration. Digital media should not be used to harass, offend, or target one particular group.

2. I have seen Facebook pages that are linked to the school (I don't know if they are run by parents, booster club or coaches) that list student names. As a site that is affiliated with the school it is not appropriate to list student's names because of privacy laws. I had a colleague tell me that one of her students had a no contact order with their father, but the father was able to figure out which elementary their child went to based on googling the child's name. When he googled the name, the Facebook page showed up, so this father showed up during recess time to try to talk to his child. Most of the time these people are not thinking that listing a child's name could put them at risk or in harms way, but we as adults have to think of all scenarios.
