Inappropriate Use Digital Media

Jen Rasmussen
There have been times when players have used social media to complain about coaches.

After reading your post, I am reminded of why more and more college programs of different sports have removed digital or social media from their players.  And in many instances the players thank the coaches for doing that, in that it saves them from saying things they don't truly mean or are at a point they are not mature enough to understand.

If you have the social media contract signed by players you can enforce the consequences but it does not keep them from doing it in the first place a lot of times.  Hopefully others learn from seeing the consequences.  Every year they have to be told and reminded of what is appropriate and inappropriate.

The social media contract is a great idea and I believe that it helps.  Players need to know that in the heat of the moment they should not voice their frustrations on social media.  It hurts everyone involved.

People forget that everyone can see what they are posting.  They may be mad about something and post it without thinking.

I agree.  I think that students have become very accustomed to communicating through social media.  It is just second nature to them to use it to vent their feelings in all situations.  I think it is good to have the contract to more easily set norms of use and apply/enforce consequences.
