Inappropriate Use Digital Media

Cory McCarville
I had a parent take to Digital Media and was very vocal and critical of a decision that I had made.  That parent did not have all of the information on the subject and knew that but felt that going to digital media was the best option.

Having a social media contract that kids sign is great but we can't control parents.  I had a parent meeting so they would also know that social media can be a great tool to promote the program.  I tell kids to use it to promote the program not to demote themselves.

I believe that, as educators, we can teach digital citizenship to the students and have them be receptive to it, but it is going to be a challenge with some students who have parents and extended family members that are not educated on being a good digital citizen.  Students are going to be caught in the middle of this conflict, but hopefully with the proper education they will make the correct choice.

Today's parents use social media to vent their frustrations with the injustices done to their children. Unfortunately, they rarely have all the information and end up getting lots of people in an uproar over "something" that was really "nothing."
