Inappropriate Use Digital Media

Christianna Stiles
I believe that we all have heard that many of our students send nude pictures to others.

I am always surprised at the things or content of all posts--students and adults.  I had a student tell me it is all about being re-tweeted.

I think digital citizenship is very important for all of us to practice--it shouldn't matter if it is private or public.

A couple of things that I have witnessed as a reminder to all of us
1.  A colleague left his computer unattended and another colleague sent an all staff email from his computer.
2.  I put my phone down during study duty.  I had not programmed a pass code.  Students took goofy pictures with my phone--nothing inappropriate, but it could have been worse.

I forgot to add to my above post that we all need to be careful if we leave our digital resources.  In both instances, the students/adult were joking and it was innocent.  I need to remember to protect myself and realize that someone's intentions to be funny might not be viewed to others in the same way.  In both situations, someone could have taken advantage of the situation to do something wrong.  I don't leave my computer unlocked or carry my phone at school anymore--I shouldn't have had my phone with me in the first place.
