Inappropriate Use of Digital Media

Drew Dornack
Being a coach now days is a difficult profession.  I haven't had too many times where it has happened but Facebook posts or Tweets have been directed at me or my staff about playing time and what not.  I usually have a mutual friend that will screen shot it and send it to me.  It is unfortunate that this takes place but people would rather vent to their "friends" on social media instead of meeting face to face and talking about it.
The other times where this happens is if a school makes the wrong decision on something.  Someone will post a rant on Facebook or Twitter and then other commenters will jump on and then it will create a firestorm of sorts.  Its unfair but it is part of the times that we live in.

It is tough to be a coach or referee.  Before, if parents were upset at you or a referee, they would yell comments during the game.  As if that is not bad enough, now they go home and plaster it all over social media for everyone to see.  The school I work at has problems with parents on Facebook.  If they don't like how a situation is handled, instead of contacting the school or administration, they blast it all over social media.
