Inappropriate Use of Digital Media

Melissa Daniels
I teach at a high school, and students use digital media inappropriately all the time. They are often on their phones during instructional time, looking at videos which are not appropriate for class or having conversations with friends (or even strangers!) over Snapchat etc. It made me feel annoyed that they were on their phones, but also concerned for them. They are teenagers and don't seem aware of the fact that what they're doing is inappropriate or could have long-term consequences. It might help them if they were more aware of the long-term implications of some of the information they are freely sharing over the Internet.

I agree with you wholeheartedly about that lack of understanding of the consequences (short-term and long-term).  It is also sad that students see watching a video (whether appropriate or inappropriate) that is unrelated to class content as a priority instead of taking their education seriously.
