Inappropriate Use of Digital Media

I am not a regular social media user, but one thing that I regularly encounter when I am on the internet is the routine occurrence of vulgar and disrespectful language toward others - language and behavior that would not generally be displayed in a face-to-face conversation. What is it about the digital media that instills in many a reduced sense of personal responsibility and accountability?
