Inappropriate use of Digital Materials

Greg Vraspier
I remember being at a workshop in Ames a few years back and the Officer was giving us information on "Sexting".   He discussed how there were pictures going around that were of underage students and as they were forwarded they went to a student that was 18+.  When this student sent them on he was then accused of distributing Child pornography. I don't remember if they found him guilty, but if so then he is placed on the sex offender registry for years to come.  We often remind the players on my teams that there is little you can do these days that someone is not taking pictures or video.  When you are young and immature you make poor decisions about posting these and they do not just go away because you delete them.  Someone could have already saved the material.  At school we had a teacher that was leaving a number of years ago and he wanted to take his parting shots at the Administration and a couple of other teachers.  Once it was out the Administration was not happy about it and had the tech department do everything they could to remove it from the system, including going into everyone's files and removing it.  Did this stop the spread? No!  Some people had quickly, after first seeing this, saved it to other resources and printed it before it could be removed.  So even when the powers that be want to remove materials it doesn't always work.
