Inappropriate use of Digital Media

Julie Heitland
I have probably received an email that was upsetting or did not set a good tone with me. I made an instant reply using words that were not professional. I did not let it sit in my drafts while I calmed down and read it again before it was sent. If I had followed this piece of netiquette, things would have had a much better outcome. I have seen pictures of college students posted with alcoholic drinks in their hands when they are not of legal age to drink.
The end result is that everyone was upset and the issue was much harder to resolve to make everyone satisfied with the outcome.  Pictures tend to get shared without the other people in the picture being aware. They may not be doing anything wrong but because they are with others who are, other may make assumptions about them that are not accurate.
When sending things via the Internet - email, snapchat, instagram, messenger, facebook, or twitter - you need to be calm and think about what you are posting. If you wish to post pictures with other people in them, ask for their permission first.
