Internet Safety

Thad Tussey
I explored the social networking site Facebook.  In the security settings, a user can have trusted friends help with getting an account back if a user is locked out of his or her account.  Users can also review and manage where they have logged into Facebook.  There is also an option of having a family member care for the user's account if something happens to the user.

Privacy settings allow users to determine who can see their posts, things they are tagged in, and shared items.  Users can also limit who can contact them with friend requests, messages, emails, and by phone.  Timeline and tagging setting let users determine who can post to their timeline and review posts that users are tagged in.  Once an item has been posted, users can review and determine what users see their posts and tagged items.  Users have the ability to review tagged items that other people have tagged them in.

Restricted lists, blocking users, blocking app invites, blocking event invites, and blocking pages are all user setting options to protect their profile.  These options allow for a user to make their activity on the site as private and public as they would like by determining who has viewing rights to the user's posts.

Users should be aware of all of these security options so that they can have the best experience possible when using social media.
