Internet Safety

Lisa Dupuy
I looked at the social networking site of Facebook. In Facebook you are able to change your privacy settings so only your friends can view your posts on your profile, and see things that you are tagged in. There is also an option of customize your list of friends you want to send the posts to. You can also have your “Who can contact me?” section selected as friends of friends rather than everyone. The majority of my settings that I selected, you have to be my friend to see anything. Out of all of the options for Facebook privacy settings, the friends seems the most secure. The other options are friends of friends or everyone. Which everyone would not be a good choice because then you would have a greater risk on the internet to come across a predator. Another setting they ask about is “Do you want search engines outside of Facebook to line to your profile?” Which if you look at the settings, to me it looks like a better choice to select no. One thing that I always consider if someone adds me as a friend online, is if I really know the person. Like they said in different videos, people might add you just to get their friend number up. It is safer to not add them if you don’t know them. You can also block apps and invites from people.
