Norms & Responsibilities

Eva Evers
I believe everyone should be able to have a voice and express their freedom of speech, but they also need to be conscious of what they're saying.  Inherently, written words are missing the element of voice nuances - is the person being sarcastic, is the person emotional, etc.  People have a responsibility to communicate clearly and effectively through their written words - provide context and needed notes for understanding.  Also, we all have the responsibility to own our written words.  All too often people hide behind the ability to be anonymous on the internet.  I think this is a complete disregard and misuse of their freedom of speech.  As the old adage goes - say what you mean and mean what you say.  This is applicable in verbal and written instances.
