Norms & Responsibilities

Erin Stohlmeyer
For many students understanding the rights of content creators can be a struggle. But knowing how to give credit to others is more important than ever before. In part because it is so much easier to check on that information within the digital world. It’s also important to remind students that when they become the content creators it will be important to get credit for their work.

I think it also needs to be addressed that in the digital world there has been and will likely continue to be a larger rate of abuse towards women. It doesn’t seem to matter if it’s by stating an opinion, creating original content, or just commenting on a social media site; women on the internet have to deal with a much larger amount of verbal backlash and abuse. I think this needs to be addressed and discussed in schools in order to ever have a chance of stopping it. I know that anyone can be a target on the internet and that it is important for everyone to be responsible users, but I just think this is an issue that needs to be addressed.
