Norms & Responsibilities

Just like those of us that get a license of any kind, whether it be a teaching license or a driver's license, certain responsibilities come along with it.  Everyone should know that we all have a digital license to explore the Internet and with that come many responsibilities and there are consequences for our actions.  It is difficult to address because we all use the Internet in different ways:  social media, researching, communicating with others, purchasing goods.  There is no "digital police" watching our every move so we need to know the rules and be a good digital citizen to the best of our ability.

I couldn't agree more. If we teach the skills for being good digital citizens like we teach the skills for being a good reader, writer, or problem-solver, we will set the foundation for safe and responsible digital use.

I agree.  I worry that kids are detached from understanding that their words written online can have a real and profound affect on those receiving them.  If they wouldn't say it to someone in real life, then they shouldn't say them virtually.
