Norms and Responsibilites

Laura Klaes
I believe that the norms should be that if someone post/uploads something that it still belongs to them. I think going along with that, as a person who is posting or uploading something to social media it is your responsibility to know what you rights are. That is also the responsibilities as a teacher I feel that social media is only growing bigger and that it is our responsibility to teach students to be mindful of what you are putting up.

Agree. Definitely being mindful of what students are putting up is important. Is our job to teach or to supervise the web and student's access constantly? If we have specific sites that are given for an particular assignment for  them to reference and check their history then that is how we can set boundaries. Like using a specific textbook for the topic of discussion.

I agree, teachers (and parents) need to provide information to these young kids so that are aware of situations they are putting themselves in.  Are these norms and responsibilities getting all kids, probably not.

Alternatively, then, it would be important that we also educate students in what they are able to use freely and what they cannot.  They need to understand and respect the difference between creative commons content, and content that is privately licensed.  It would also be interesting to integrate social emotional learning and inquire into why a person might choose to license their content in different ways.
