Norms and Responsibilities

As I work with upper elementary students, I realize that students need to understand their rights and responsibilities when using the internet. I find that their curiosity and eagerness to learn on a computer may cause them to be reckless and could find themselves on sites that are not appropriate for their age or work at school. Safe searching on Kiddle or Kid Rex should be taught. Students need to learn to respect each other's opinions, feel free to express their own in a respectful manner, and be safe. Using Kid Blog would be a way to monitor and practice respectful communication on the internet. Students need to learn about privacy of others and their own privacy while feeling free to express themselves.
