Norms and Responsibilities

Shaelynn Farnsworth
Norms of Digital Citizenship should include the appropriate, responsible, and ethical behavior in regards to technology use. I like the 9 Elements of Digital Citizenship by Ribble and feel that it is a great conceptual starting place for students and teachers. Digital Citizenship should not be limited to an event in schools, instead, it should be a part of everyone's curriculum. We want students who are critical thinkers, collaborators, consumers, and creators in a global society. Each of the 9 elements are versatile enough to apply across disciplines and grade levels. They not only address safety and well being, but how to use technology to benefit learning, share voice and ideas, and deal with moral and ethical dilemmas.

Just so you know I am so agree and am using your words in my response...what I mean is, I am quoting you.  Your statement about digital citizenship NOT being limited to just one event in a school is so right.  We just had this talk with our leadership team at the beginning of the school year.  It should take place across the curriculum.  Thanks!
