Rights and Responsibility

Tracey Hemmingsen
I feel that norms in the digital world should be the right to privacy and free speech.  People should be allowed to post and comment about things they feel strongly about.  However, users need to understand that there are limits to self-expression and they have an ethical responsibility to themselves and others to keep information private and follow the laws of the country where they reside.  Students need to understand their affect on the world and we have a responsibility to teach them how to safely and effectively use technology in a positive way.

The longevity of the digital world is difficult for students to understand and comprehend.  Even though they may feel strongly about a topic today, those posts may follow them into their futures also.

I feel that we are in a completely new and open world of free information and completely free access to really anything.  We need to be very careful as society to be aware of new threats and possible needed rules and laws to prevent abuse of internet users as this all plays out.
